MMOs will never be top notch in the graphics department. The goal is to get thousands to millions of people playing together, and to do that you have to make sure the game will run on whatever ***** e-machine you can buy at Wal-Mart.There are a few exceptions: A couple years ago CCP recognized that EvE was beginning to look very dated, and released new textures for all of their ships. They gave you the option of playing with the old textures or the new ones, neither would hamper your ability to play the game.WoW also has made great leaps in visuals since the release of it's latest expansion. Every aspect of the graphics quality can be managed by a dozen slider bars, and you can play anywhere from nearly wireframe to very hi-res (the key to getting maximum performance and maximum looks though is turning everything on the highest setting and then dropping your view distance as low as you can).
