I don't have any idea who the third guy is, but all the folks you quoted besides were famous expat/leftist types so it really isn't surprising that they would feel that way about patriotism! I mean, come on dude, I could probably find equally valuable writers in the canon like Hobbes or Thomas Moore or something who have nothing but wonderful things to say about patriotism. Hell, some of the best writers in our history believed in divine absolutism.

Bush did mess up the economy... but wall street crashing just coincided with Bush's watch, not because of it. Hell, most of the deregulation of the mortgage industry that lead to the crash was put into motion during Clinton's watch. Bush did not help the economy, and he did drive us into debt but lets be honest with ourselves here and blame both parties... not just our favorite scapegoat. And how does the President have any control over wall street? He can't sign into law that which never appears before him. Blame Congress, as they are the ones flushing this country down the drain.
