That's more or less a myth. Some (rich) Canadians DO cross the border to get health care in the US faster. However overall the number of Canadians crossing the border is so small that it's completely irrelevantA study from 1996 that had almost 18000 respondants showed about 90 respondants sought care in the US in the previous year, and only about 20 of those had gone to the US with the express purpose of getting health care there.On top of that another study of US Hospitals in 2002 concluded that in comparison to the number of Canadians using the Canadian health care system, Canadians traveling to the USA to get health care was "barely detectable".It's a farce. Sure, it does happen, but it's so rare it's irrelevant. Americans also cross the border into Canada to get health care and cheap prescription drugs, but you don't hear much about that
I consider myself a Republican, in the sense that I want all possible government involvement out of my life. So, that means that if you want to smoke weed, great, go for it. I don't think you should go to jail for it. HOWEVER, if you are in a position where you deal with safety or security of others and it impairs your judgement, such as a school bus driver, or train engineer, I think your employer should have the right to fire you or ask you to quit.

Hmmm.... Which would I prefer??? (holds up imaginary scales with hands weighing the options) The existence of gay people who are generally peaceful and have never harmed anyone, or, a crazy family standing on the street corner every day (because they don't seem to have anywhere to go) shouting and preaching hatred, and violence, and obscenities. |
